I always knew deep down I wasn’t cut out for the corporate world. I didn’t fit in with it and it didn’t fit in with me.
Whilst sitting in ‘important’ meetings listening to jargon I didn’t understand, I would be formulating escape routes in my head. How could I get away from this stuffy, soul-destroying job, yet continue to live an abundant lifestyle?
I was stifled by every single aspect of it. From the senior managers, who were seemingly so disconnected from the departments they were responsible for, to the lack of natural air and bland generic open-plan office environment.
When presentations were made to employees who had completed 10,15,30 years of service, while everyone else was applauding them, I was puzzled by the thought of someone devoting the best years of their lives on this beautiful planet to doing the same thing, with the same people, day in, day out. I knew that path was not for me.
After taking 18 months out to live and teach English in Thailand with my 11-year-old son, I accepted another corporate role when I returned to the UK because, ‘it paid the bills’, but quite honestly, although I have a lot to be thankful for in terms of the income it provided and some friends I met along the way, I spent 6 years unfulfilled, bored out of my brain and searching for a way out.
I am, however, grateful that this happened because if it hadn’t, then maybe I would have plodded on for another 5/10/20 more years paying the bills and starving my soul.
I’ve always been a highly ambitious go-getter who refuses to settle in a situation that doesn’t provide me with a certain level of fulfilment, and I have led a wonderfully vibrant and varied lifestyle because of that (even during my darker days).
Additionally, I have always had this deep passion to help people truly realise and embrace the potential of life.
Once I realised that actually life can be this big, spicy, flavoursome, experience FULL of love and opportunity, I knew I had to stop plodding in my ‘vanilla’ existence and get out there and make things happen. More importantly I felt called to take all of my own learning and experience and share it as I knew for sure there were other people out there, that like me want more but don’t know where to start.
Ultimately for me, it wasn’t a choice to leave, it was a necessity for my emotional and mental health and wellbeing. It could be the same for you.
Do I know how much money I am going to make this year? No.
Do I know exactly who, what or where I’ll be working this time next week? No.
Do I go to bed every single night feeling happy, content, grateful and abundant AF? Yes.
Do I have any regrets? Absolutely NOT!
My mission is to take as many unfulfilled people as I can from a life that feels lacking and less than on a journey of hard work and self-discovery. The aim is to demonstrate that anything is possible with the right mindset. Once you have nailed the mindset and know where you want to go I promise that by showing up and doing the work you will
Get there, Stay there and Thrive there.
